Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 26, 2025
Welcome to "Text to Calendar - AI Event Scheduler" ("we", "our", "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Chrome extension, Text to Calendar (the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
To provide our Service, we need to process certain information. We collect only what is absolutely necessary for the extension to function.
- Selected Text: When you activate the extension on highlighted text, that specific piece of text is collected. This is the core data required for the AI to parse event details.
- User Timezone: Your browser's current timezone (e.g., "America/New_York") is automatically sent with your request. This is essential for the AI to correctly interpret dates and times and schedule your event accurately in your local time.
We do not collect any other data from your browser, such as your browsing history, cookies, or personal information from your Google account.
2. How We Use Your Information
The information we collect is used solely for the following purposes:
- To Provide the Service: The selected text and timezone are sent to a secure backend server where an AI model processes the data to extract event details (title, date, time, location). This structured data is then returned to the extension.
- To Create Calendar Events: The extension uses the structured data returned by the AI to pre-fill a Google Calendar event for you. This action is performed entirely within your browser using Google's secure authentication.
3. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We are transparent about how your data moves through our system.
- AI Processing Service: The selected text you provide is sent to a third-party AI service for the sole purpose of parsing it into structured event data. This data is processed ephemerally and is not stored or used to train AI models. Our service provider for this is Google Cloud Functions.
-
Google Calendar: To create an event, the extension requires your permission to use the Google Calendar API. We use Chrome's Identity API (
chrome.identity.launchWebAuthFlow
) to open a secure Google Sign-In window. This allows you to grant permission directly to our application without us ever seeing your password. We only request the minimum required permission (calendar.events
) and do not have access to read or modify your existing events.
We will never sell your personal data to third parties.
4. Data Security and Retention
We take data security seriously. All communication between the extension, our backend service, and Google's APIs is encrypted using industry-standard HTTPS.
We do not store the content you highlight or the events you create on our servers. The selected text is processed in real-time and immediately discarded after the AI has returned the structured event details. We retain no logs of the content you process.
5. Your Control and Rights
You are in full control of your data. You can revoke the extension's access to your Google Calendar at any time by visiting your Google Account permissions page and removing "Text to Calendar - AI Event Scheduler" from the list of third-party apps with account access. You can also uninstall the extension at any time to cease all data collection.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
